favorite song: panpsych

the orchestral sister album to flight b741! it's much sadder :( very beautiful and heartfelt though. to me, it feels like they traded the riffs of b741 for vocal melodies on this one and i love it. this also might be their best album art yet!

favorite song: hog calling contest

it's incredibly hard to pick a favorite on this album since they're all so good, but i'm going with hog calling contest because it's so fun. good ol pig-themed country rock album with a plane crash metaphor throughout. so much to love. this dropped right before i saw them for the first time, and also when i could relate to the themes the most. this became an instant top 3 album for me which is saying a lot!

favorite song: gilgamesh

for a looong time i considered chang'e my favorite on this album but gilgamesh has won me over! this album is just so fun and so varied. i never disliked it but it grows on me the more i listen to it. i also really dig the locked grooves and hidden tracks on the physical record! it's the little things that make an album click for you i guess. that and nathan 2.0.

favorite song: motor spirit

what a fucking title huh? releasing two pairs of twin albums back to back is such a gizzard thing to do and i love it. this one RIPSSS it's gotta be top 5 gizzard for me... love the mad max-apocalypse-witchcraft-cult-dragon lore packed into this. motor spirit is also one of the best songs ever probably

favorite song: gondii

LORD it's so hard to pick a favorite song on gizz albums.this album was the most recent release when i got into the band so it's got a special place in my heart :) it's really fun to pick out the chord progression that runs throughout this record and all the mirrored melodies hehe

favorite song: the land before timeland

this was the last album i got to when going through the back catalogue when i first got into the band (it took me like. a year and a half i think)! worth the wait tbh. the land before timeland is one of the most overlooked gizz songs ever. it's soooo good and they keep teasing it but not playing it... evil.

favorite song: gliese 710

once again impossible to pick a favorite track but i have to be contrarian and pick the song in locrian. each of these songs is in a different mode! and i kinda don't know shit about music theory (kinda) so i like to hear the sonic differences in the different modes. and locrian sounds evil. and gliese 710 is bonkers lyrically i LOVE IT

favorite song: blame it on the weather

ohhh omnium gatherum how i love you. the genre shifts on this one are insane. gizz have a few "here's a bunch of songs that didn't fit anywhere else" albums but this one is the longest and weirdest (and best... imo)! you get everything from mind-melting jammy rock to proggy metal to 90s rap to horny funk and more. idc what anyone says, omnium gatherum is one of the coolest and most fun gizz records. it was really hard to pick a fave song but blame it on the weather is my BABY. i cried listening to this album for the first time because i loved it so much.

favorite song: smoke and mirrors

some people shit on this album (EP?) and those people are wrong and joyless. yes this album is cursed. yes it originated as set break intermission music. but it goes hard as fuck and it's such a cool concept. collaborative at its core. gizzard to the max. shrimpomaniac forever

favorite song: yours

this album is fighting murder of the universe to the death for the title of most transgender gizz album. they're both champions in my heart. but this one is much sweeter. butterfly themed love songs to stu's daughter (and a few about drugs and climate despair of course)! just a dream to listen to and float around in. so much fun and whimsy and love in this one.

favorite song: pleura

would you believe me if i said it was impossible to pick a favorite song on this one? banger after banger. this is my favorite microtonal gizz album :) my first impression of it was that it was.. very weird. and it definitely is, but that's kind of the whole point. and it's exactly why i dig it so much.

favorite song: automation

i'd be a fool if i didn't say automation was my favorite. it's another hard choice (surprise surprise) but automation was my first gizz song!! i loved it but i was too scared to dive in deeper for a long while. looking up the tabs and seeing microtones + looking up the lyrics and seeing deep gizzverse lore definitely didn't help.. but i love em now

favorite song: planet b

this album hit me like a truck upon first listen. sent it to my friend and said "this is gonna change me fundamentally as a person" and it DID! the storyline blew my mind and grossed me out and made me feel alive!! and it still does!!! petro might be a heavier album but this one is closer to my heart.

favorite song: boogieman sam

ahh the much more pleasant but still dread-inducing sister album to infest the rats nest <3 this one just grooves so hard. excellent tunes to dance to, especially boogieman sam! one of my favorite gizz songs ever. i need to hear it live again immediately.
